During the Gallo-Roman period, even before Chauvigny was built, La Rivière aux Chirets stood above the strategic ford on the Roman road between Poitiers and Bourges, on the banks of the River Vienne. The present house dates from the 17th century and is protected by two fortified towers. It has retained most of its 17th and 18th-century interior decoration and recent renovation has given it elegant amenities. The windows overlook either the main courtyard or a small "curate's garden".

Getting here ...

From Chauvigny town centre take the Poitiers direction and cross the bridge over the River Vienne; 50 metres to the left, take the Morthemer direction for 1 km on the D8 road. From Poitiers, enter Chauvigny and turn right 50 metres before the bridge over the D8 road.
