Originally an agricultural estate belonging to Fontevraud Abbey, built in the XIIIth and XVIIIth centuries, Mestré is a typical property of the Loire Valley, in the white tufa stone of the Loire. It was a resting place of pilgrims on the way to Santiago de Compostela, and their scallop shell designs are sculpted into the barn walls to this day.
