Château de l'Isle-Marie

Comtesse de La HOUSSAYE

Isle Marie, chosen by the prestigeous magazine Travel+Leisure as one of 50 most romantic hideaways worldwide is under 3 hours drive from Paris. Its majestic treelined avenue leads to a romantic castle surrounded by a 100 acre estate of rivers, meadows and woodlands and forms a true island. Home of the Marechal de Bellefonds, who as first Fieldmarshal of France and companion of Louis XIV, commissioned the Italianate chapel in the grounds designed by Mansart. The same family has resided here for over 1000 years and receives guests in their elegant drawingrooms with roaring fire and family portraits. The guest rooms have spectacular views and luxurious bathrooms with clawfoot baths and walk-in showers and have been featured in "Romantic Country Houses of France". The specific quality of life which guests most frequently remark upon is its most intangible: the air itself seems to impart a feeling of relaxation and tranquility they find unique.
